A simple shovel crusted with the dirt of work. It patiently leans against the shed, waiting in the afternoon sun. There is still work to be done, but it’s time for a break. The break will be short. Got to finish up before the sun sets.
That’s life. That’s spiritual work.
I dig deep into myself under the midday sun. It’s work. It’s labor. It’s dirty. The hole is getting deeper and my life is becoming clearer. The unburdening of years of earthly things spurs me on. However, the truth is, I am parched and tired.
It’s okay to take a short break. We are allowed to regroup, hydrate ourselves and ponder the task over a nice cold glass of water. I look up at the sky and conclude that time is short. I rise slowly and steady my resolve.
As I work, the last golden rays of light land on the shovel and I know one more scoop of earth is not necessary. The labor was hard but it is now complete.
I am at peace.
